Estimation of mechanical and durability properties of self-compacting concrete with fibers using ultrasonic pulse velocity
Authors
Abstract:
In this research, the performance of ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) in concrete is examined as a nondestructive experiment in order to estimate mechanical (compressive and tensile strength) and durability (water absorption) properties of fiber-reinforced self-compacted concrete For this purpose 11 mixture designs containing 3 types of fibers (steel: 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 percent by volume, Poly-phenylene Sulfide(PPS): 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4% by volume and poly-propylene: 0.1 and 0.2 percent by volume) and design without fibers as reference concrete have been tested and compared. Cube specimens were tested in order to determining ultrasonic pulse velocity. According to the results, correlation relations were established between UPV in the specimens and the compressive and tensile strength and water absorption. The range of the velocity of the waves was also determined for this kind of concrete. The proposed relations can accuracy estimate the mechanical and durability properties of this kind of concrete.

Mechanical Behavior of Self-Compacting Reinforced Concrete Including Synthetics and Steel Fibers
This paper investigated the effects of combining fibers with self-consolidating concrete (SCC). 12 series of test specimens were prepared using three kinds of fibers including steel, polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) and glass fibers with four different volumes fractions and one specimen without fibers as a reference sample. All plans were subjected to fresh concrete tests. For mechanical behavior of...

Acrylic polymer that is highly stable against chemicals and is a good choice when concrete is subject to chemical attack. In this study, self-compacting concrete (SCC) made using acrylic polymer, nanosilica and microsilica has been investigated. The results of experimental testing showed that the addition of microsilica and acrylic polymer decreased the tensile, compressive and bending strength...

Present paper investigated the strain and damage sensing property on concrete cubes embedded with carbon fibers. Concrete cubes of dimension 150 mm have been casted with different concentration of carbon fibers to study the strain and damage sensing property under cyclic loading that can be further used for health monitoring as non-destructive testing (NDT) approach. All the specimens were test...

Recycling is a logical option for materials that are not suitable for composting. One of these materials is iron mines waste that, according to their compounds, can be used as a substitute part of cement in concrete. For this aim, rheological and mechanical properties and durability of light weight self-compacting concrete (LWSCC) containing Sirjan iron mine waste (SIMW) as partial substitute o...
